1. What is the maximum amount of public liability insurance I can purchase online?
You will be covered up to £5m Indemnity with an excess of £250. This is usually enough to cover most business. Should you have a customer or contract who requires more than this speak to one of our advisors to see if we can arrange an excess layer.
2. What level of public liability insurance should I buy?
The level of public liability insurance your require can depend on a number of factors. You may be required to hold a certain level as an industry standard or as part of a contract. You may be told you need to hold certain cover to be on an approved tradesman list or website.
If there is no exterior demand then you need to consider the risks to your business and the costs that could be incurred if you where to have a claim made against you by a third party.

3. Does my policy support me in debt recovery?
By selecting commercial legal expense cover, you will be covered for any legal debt recovery over £250 alongside legal cover for any contract and employment disputes, legal defence and tax protection.
4. If I suffer personal injury out of work resulting in an inability to work for a month am I covered for loss of earnings?
No, if you were injured whilst working your personal accident policy will cover you up to £250 per week with extra £500 medical expenses. However, we have an income protection package available through our finance team to provide such cover.
5. If my tools are stolen from my work van whilst on site am I covered to get replacements?
If you have selected tools and business equipment cover your tools and business equipment are covered on an ‘All Risk’ basis, against loss or damage for up to 21 consecutive days within the EU. Your tools and equipment will be automatically reinstated to sums insured to the amount of cover taken, excess from £100, £250.
6. If I take out a policy and then change my mind can I cancel the policy and am I entitled to a full refund?
If you choose to cancel the policy within the first 14 days you have a cooling off period in which you are entitled to a full refund given that you have not made a claim. You can cancel your policy anytime providing you have not made a claim. This will entitle you the customer to a pro-rata refund. 7. I am a builder with 25 years’ experience will my public liability cover me for any demolition?
No, demolition is not covered as a job description, however if you’re purely dismantling a fixing to complete the quoted job this may be acceptable.
8. I am a manual labourer using hired machinery is this equipment covered within my tools and business equipment policy?
No, hired equipment and machinery is not covered under this section, however by taking out hired and own plant cover this will provide cover for this equipment against loss or damage.
9. What should I do if I have a claim?
In the event of a claim then you should contact the claims line directly in order to report the incident and get the process started straight away. See your policy documents for the relevant number for your claim.
10. Can I amend the level of employer’s liability insurance I purchase?
No, The employers liability insurance provided under the policy is standard at £10 Million.
