To help hair / beauty salon owners understand what is and what isn’t covered under their shop insurance policy, Endsleigh has compiled answers to some frequently asked questions.
If I injure someone during a treatment will my public liability cover this?
No, your Public Liability will not extend to this type of claim. As result we offer a Treatment Risks extension on our shop insurance policy. This will cover you and your employees up to £1,000,000 per incident, in the event of injury during any hairdressing or beauty treatment.
What happens if I can’t open the salon?
If there are circumstances that prevent you from opening the salon, whether it be because of equipment breakdown, damage to your property, or loss of power; we will cover you for your loss of Gross Profit and any costs incurred during this time in the prevention of further losses up to £500,000, as standard over a 24 month period. This only applies if the events cause an interruption or interference to the business that result in a loss of profit.
Am I covered if a customer accidently breaks something in the salon?
Our beauty salon insurance policies are insured under an ‘All Risks’ basis, which means that as well as the standard perils (e.g. fire, theft, storm, flood), we will also cover losses incurred through accidental damage.
Am I covered in the event of a customer hurting themselves on the premises?
Public liability is covered as standard on the policy, including legal defence costs. You can select a level of cover from £1,000,000 / £2,000,000 / £3,000,000 / £5,000,000. The excess is only £100. Employers Liability is also included up to £10,000,000 in the event of an employee pressing charges.
